KAC Login Error

I have just installed Kaltura (v12.15.0) on our final production server. The installation completed with no errors but when I try to login to the Kaltura Admin Console I get an error saying ‘An error occurred - (error code: API:-1)’.

Kaltura_sanity.sh fails on the following sections:

The production server is behind a proxy server, however external users can view the start webpage correctly and both ports (80 and 88) are showing as open (checked using

Hi @HilcrRWise,

It looks as though the server cannot make a HTTP request to itself using the service URL [endpoint] you specified during the configuration phase and reach the Kaltura Apache VHost.
The service URL [endpoint] you input during the configuration phase must be accessible from any client that wishes to communicate with the server [in order to reach the Admin Console, KMC and for playback purposes] AND from the server itself. This is because all our web interfaces and the batch daemon use the API to accomplish their goals.

And so, from within the server’s shell, this has to work:
# curl -f “$SERVICE_URL/api_v3/index.php?service=system&action=ping”

Hi @HilcrRWise,

Yes, that is the expected response.
Now that I look at your output closer, I see:

There is an issue with writing to the cache.
It’s easy to fix, just run:

# chown -R apache.kaltura /opt/kaltura/app/cache
# find /opt/kaltura/app/cache/ -type f -exec chmod 660 {} \;
# find /opt/kaltura/app/cache/ -type d -exec chmod 775 {} \;

Also, you did not specify whether we’re on RHEL/CentOS or Debian/Ubuntu, if Debian Ubuntu, then instead of:

# chown -R apache.kaltura /opt/kaltura/app/cache
it should be:
# chown -R www-data.kaltura /opt/kaltura/app/cache

This should straighten things up.

The error still remains after running those commands (I am using CentOs 7).

OK, two things:

Can you try to login using a different browser? If you’ve dropped the DB and rebuilt it, it is possible you’ve got local browser cache preventing you from successfully logging in.
Assuming this is not the issue, please try to login again while running kaltlog and also open your browser’s dev tools and look for errors in the “Network” and “Console” tabs. Paste the findings here.

Hi @HilcrRWise,

I’m seeing a lot of different errors here…
For starters, seems like the batch daemon is unable to make API requests…

193.63.41.129:80; Connection timed out' in /opt/kaltura/app/batch/client/KalturaClientBase.php:362 
'Exception' with message 'System is not yet ready - ping failed' in /opt/kaltura/app/infra/log/KalturaLog.php:83

This is not related to the Admin Console login but it’s certainly an issue. To troubleshoot the Admin Console login, I recommend you move /opt/kaltura/log/kaltura_apache_errors.log, /opt/kaltura/log/kaltura_admin.log and /opt/kaltura/log/kaltura_api_v3.log aside, reload Apache, try to login and look for errors in all of these files. We should be able to find the root cause in one of these.
Also, is the machine’s hostname resolvable from within the server? as in, does:

$ ping -c 1 `hostname`

returns correctly?

in addition, what’s the output for:

Sorry for not responding sooner but have been too busy to do any troubleshooting over the past week.

Bryan, our school network does not allow the use of Skype, but feel free to contribute on the post or via private messaging.

I have just tried reinstalling from scratch (OS and all) but am still getting the same error, however this time after I run ‘yum install kaltura-server’ but before running ‘/opt/kaltura/bin/kaltura-config-all.sh’ I noticed that I recevied the below email:

Is this error related to my issue or can it be ignored?
